Approach
The key purpose of this service is to determine the quantities of materials for a given construction project to the extent that it can be accurately quoted for.
Each project has its own challenges with regards to the materials required to deliver a completed product.
Do determine the extent of such quantities it is necessary to appoint competent persons for this purpose, especially in civil construction projects where vast quantities are applicable.
Although the service may be conducted separately, it is advised that the quantities be calculated by the persons responsible for the design, as they have the most in-depth knowledge of the circumstances at hand.
SANS 1200 is compromised of a comprehensive set of standards that specify the means by which quantities are specified, calculated and priced. Although SANS 2001 has replaced SANS 1200 for specifying construction methods and quality control, SANS 1200 remains widely used for the purpose of compiling Bill of Quantities’.
Scope of Services
The Scope of Services offered within the Quantity Surveying service includes the following:
- Calculation of construction quantities.
- Compilation of Bill of Quantities’ to the specifications of SANS 1200.
- Request for Quotations based on Item 2 above (small private works only).
