STRUCTURAL MAINTENANCE FOR INSTITUTIONAL BUILDINGS
Structural Maintenance for Institutional Buildings
Approach
The key purpose of this service is to establish the integrity of structural systems, in terms of safety and serviceability, within institutional buildings including schools and churches.
The service pertains to all buildings constructed of brickwork and concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel and structural timber.
Unless specifically requested during appointment the service will be conducted on a visual basis only. Should the findings necessitate further investigation by means of Non-Destructive Testing or the like, it will be detailed within the report submitted to the School.
Signs of structural distress which may be detected by means of visible cracking and corrosion will be documented based on severity and will include recommendations for treatment (where and if applicable).
Due to the nature of schools, the service will be required to extend to more than classrooms and offices, thus other structures such as gathering halls, pavilions, retaining walls on sport grounds, etc. will be given equal priority for investigation.
To ensure effective and comprehensive detection of defects, the school structures will be surveyed by qualified engineers employed by VSA Engineers.
