Approach

The key purpose of this service is to establish the structural requirements of the Client and provide a design that is suitable in terms of strength for the standard operation of the structure while being practical and economical as well.

The design will attempt to fulfil all requirements a Client may set. Where practical solutions are not available, alternatives will be suggested for consideration by the Client.

Structural design may include the following sub-sectors:

  • Structural Steel
  • Reinforced Concrete (R.C.)
  • Structural Timber

The most common being Reinforced Concrete, either in the form of foundations or suspended slabs and beams.

Structural design will adhere to SANS 10160, 10162, 0100, 10163, and any other standards published by the South African Bureau of Standards that may be applicable to the specific conditions at hand.

Scope of Services

The Scope of Services included within the Structural Design and Detailing suite include the following:

  1. General Assessment of Client requirements.
  2. Completion of SANS 10400 Part A Form 1 and / or 2.
  3. Site Survey of topography (if applicable)
  4. Design of Structural Steel elements including:
    1. Structural Steel Beams;
    2. Structural Steel Columns;
    3. Structural Steel Connections.
  5. Design of Reinforced Concrete elements including:
    1. C. Beams;
    2. C. Columns;
    3. C. Foundations;
    4. C. Floor Slabs;
    5. C. Suspended Slabs;
    6. C. Roof Slabs.
  6. Design of Structural Timber elements including:
      1. Timber Roof Trusses;
      2. Timber Floor Support Structures;
      3. Timber Beams.
  7. Detailing of Structural elements sufficient for quotation / fabrication / construction purposes.
  8. Monitoring of Construction and Quality of Works through intermittent Site Inspections.
  9. Certification of Structural Compliance upon completion.

Deliverables

  1. SANS 10400 Part A Form 1 and / or 2.
  2. Detail drawings of design at the level requested by the Client.
  3. SANS 10400 Part A Form 4 (Structural Compliance).
